High Wycombe community hub gets nearly $40 million as WA govt backs eastern suburbs growth

The Cook Labor Government has committed an additional $9.55 million to the proposed High Wycombe Community Hub, lifting total public investment to nearly $40 million for a major new precinct next to High Wycombe Station in Perth’s eastern corridor. The project is designed to deliver an aquatic centre, community centre, gymnasium and café, while supporting the broader METRONET East redevelopment vision.
The funding announcement was made as part of a joint investment with the Albanese Labor Government and the City of Kalamunda. The hub first received $30 million from the State and $30 million from the Commonwealth in 2022, while the City of Kalamunda has committed $10 million.
The proposed hub will be built on State-owned land within the METRONET East Redevelopment Area, adjacent to High Wycombe Station. According to the government, the facility is intended to provide important community infrastructure for the growing eastern corridor and help transform the land around the station into a better connected urban centre.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2027, with opening planned for late 2028. The government says the project is expected to act as a catalyst for surrounding development by creating housing opportunities, jobs and community amenities around major transport infrastructure.
Planning and Lands Minister John Carey said the government was working with all levels of government to create a liveable, well-serviced community in the High Wycombe Station development precinct. He said the additional funding “guarantees the delivery” of the hub and described it as a major community asset for Perth’s eastern suburbs.
Rita Saffioti, who holds the Sport and Recreation and Transport portfolios, said the High Wycombe Station had been a “gamechanger” for the community by improving access to reliable and affordable public transport. She said METRONET had unlocked new opportunities for housing and community facilities in High Wycombe and that investment in the hub was part of the government’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure for growing communities.
Member for Forrestfield Stephen Price said the extra funding would help deliver a facility close to public transport for local families. He said the planned community centre, aquatic facility, gym and café would give residents space to get involved, stay active and stay connected.
The project ties the hub directly to the broader transformation around High Wycombe Station, where METRONET investment is being used to support housing, community infrastructure and local economic activity. The government says the project will help unlock the full potential of land around the station and support long-term growth in the area.
The announcement also marks a significant milestone for the City of Kalamunda, which says the hub is moving closer to becoming a reality. The development is expected to provide generations of residents with modern aquatic, recreation and community facilities.
