Ray Owen Reserve redevelopment complete with new sporting facilities in Lesmurdie
A $5 million Cook Government redevelopment has transformed Ray Owen Reserve with a new playing field, upgraded oval, floodlighting and sustainable irrigation.

The $5 million redevelopment of Ray Owen Reserve in Lesmurdie is complete, delivering upgraded sporting facilities to support growing demand from local clubs and the wider community.
Funded through the Cook Labor Government’s WA Recovery Fund, the project has added a new playing field, upgraded the existing oval and installed floodlighting across both playing fields. The improvements are designed to support junior training, weekend competitions, community events and broader participation in sport and recreation.
The redevelopment also includes sustainable irrigation infrastructure supplied by the Hartfield Park Aquifer. The new system will help maintain high-quality playing surfaces while supporting the reserve’s long-term operation.
The completed work builds on accessible changeroom upgrades delivered in January 2025, further strengthening Ray Owen Reserve as a modern and inclusive sporting precinct for local players, clubs and visitors.
The project forms part of the Cook Labor Government’s PlayOn WA initiative, which aims to deliver 2,030 community sport and recreation infrastructure items across Western Australia by 2030. The initiative is intended to promote active and healthy lifestyles, strengthen communities and help sporting clubs grow.
Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti said the completed redevelopment was a positive outcome for the local community and the sporting clubs that use the reserve.
“Completing the redevelopment of Ray Owen Reserve is another great outcome for the local community and for the many sporting clubs that call this reserve home,” Ms Saffioti said.
“These upgraded facilities will support everything from junior training and weekend competitions through to community events, ensuring the reserve remains a vibrant local meeting place.”

Klasey Hirst MLC said the improved reserve would help increase participation in sport by giving locals and visitors access to high-quality facilities.
“The new and improved Ray Owen Reserve will help to drive participation in sport, providing locals and visitors with access to top-quality facilities,” Mr Hirst said.
“These upgrades are great for the community and they help ensure all Western Australians, particularly junior athletes and sporting clubs, can continue to play the sports they love, locally, for years to come.”
Ray Owen Reserve now offers a larger and more accessible sporting venue for the Kalamunda community, with improved facilities intended to support local sport and recreation for years to come.
