Western Australians invited to exclusive tour of Perth Film Studios
Perth Film Studios will open for free public tours on 11 and 12 September 2026, offering behind-the-scenes access, student pathways, family activities and industry talks.

Perth Film Studios will open its doors this September for a two-day public event aimed at showcasing Western Australia’s growing screen industry, with free open days scheduled for 11 and 12 September 2026. The state government says the event is designed to give families, students and film enthusiasts a rare look inside the world-class facility, while celebrating local storytelling, creativity and innovation.
The first day will focus on secondary students interested in screen careers, with attendees set to hear from industry professionals, meet filmmakers and learn about roles across the production pipeline, including runner, rigger, programmer, post-production specialist, line producer, location manager, gaffer and games animator. The second day will be a family-friendly open day, with entertainment, activities, demonstrations and hands-on workshops planned for visitors of all ages.
The program will also feature appearances linked to well-known Australian screen productions, including Outback Truckers and Whale Shark Jack. Visitors will see The Whale by Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, with an interactive puppet whale on display, and Freestyle Now will stage a BMX Bandits-themed stunt show.
A Behind-the-Scenes Zone will allow visitors to experience a working studio environment and follow each stage of the live production process through the making of a music video. The event will also include speakers and panel talks, with writer and producer Ben Elton scheduled as the keynote guest on Saturday for an in-conversation session covering his career across television, radio, film and theatre.
Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk said the studio is “a major investment” by the Cook Labor Government in Western Australia’s creative future, adding that it will help grow the economy, create jobs and put the state on the map as a global screen production destination. She said the open days would give students, locals and emerging creatives a chance to step inside and learn more, while also helping Western Australians feel proud of the creativity happening in their own backyard.
West Swan MLA Rita Saffioti said the open day would let families “explore the magic of filmmaking” in Malaga, with attractions spanning movies, games, costumes and special effects. She described the event as a chance for the community to see the screen industry in action and experience what the state is building for the future of Western Australia and its economy.
Free tickets and program highlights will be released on 3 August 2026, and people are being encouraged to register interest through the Arts and Culture Trust website ahead of the public release. The announcement comes as filming is already underway at Perth Film Studios, marking a visible next step for a project that the state says is central to its creative industries strategy.
